21

So in my Creative Writing class, at the beginning of the year, we were told to write a short short. I guess, if you were to really get picky, it would be a short "short short." But what it is, is a story in 6 words.
My favorite, among the ones that I wrote is: 'Noah shut door. Giraffopotomous came late.'

In any case, here is what sums up my current sentiment.

'Paper due. Do I have to?'

Hope all the rest of you are holdin' up during finals time. :]

Virginia Tech Shooting

I know there are probably a lot of posts about this by now. But humor me.

If my roommate had not been browsing through a basketball forum which happened to mention the shootings yesterday, I would have been greeted by this news nearly a day later, as I opened today's Times.

Yet, even as classes at Rutgers are cancelled due to flooding, and idle students wander around campus, in want for any classes to go too, I fail to sense any difference in the world. No feeling that there is something that is not quite right. No feeling that just a couple states away, thirty-two kids died premature deaths. And though I know in my gut that this is a "tragedy," again, I fail to feel the wrongness of it all.

So I flipped on the TV, and watched FOX News as Girlado Rivera stereotyped the shooter as a dysfunctional loner, who had no friends--fated to go on a suicidal rampage. Maybe some of it was true, but it satirized the whole episode for me. Made it into yet another trivial instance in a world gone amok.

On top of that, I was dismayed to find that the shooter was a fellow korean. His parents owned a dry cleaners, and his sister was going to Princeton. And instead of taking the moment to consider what is horribly wrong in this world, my suitemate walked into my room and joked that Danny was the killer. A South Korean who's parent's own a Dry Cleaners. Ha Ha.
